Sneakers are generally sports shoes. They
are foot wears designed for sports and physical exercises. Sneakers are made of
a flexible sole either from synthetic materials or rubber and the top made from
synthetic materials or leather. Sneakers have a variety of synonyms depending
of geographical locations and culture. In fact, the term sneakers itself is
commonly used in Northern United States and southern Florida also in North
Carolina.
Elsewhere, sneakers are referred to us
trainers(modern British English), joggers or sand shoes (Geordie English),
sports shoes in south Africa, rubber shoes in the Philippines and canvas shoes
in Nigeria. The word sneaker is stressed back to American advertiser Henry
Nelson 1917 whose was advertising for N.W. Ayer & son agency.
However, these days sneakers are not worn
exclusively for sports or physical exercises, but also just during hangouts and
just casually. Notable brands for sneakers include: Nike, Brooks, Converse,
Fila, Adidas, Puma, Reebok and Umbra.
TYPES OF SNEAKERS.
Sneakers can be broadly classified
according to design or fabric. There is a variety of sneakers ranging from high-tops,
low-tops, mid-cut, sneaker boots, and slip-ons, low-top CVO, Approach shoes and
bowling shoes and many more depending on the activity they are designed for.
According to design:
1. SLIP-ON SNEAKERS.
These are do-not-cover-ankle sneakers that
have smooth tops without shoelaces. They are easy to wear shoes. They are the
best casuals as they are light. However, it is fashion clash if worn with high
socks
2. HIGH TOP SNEAKERS.
These ones cover the ankle commonly on
basketball courts. They are to be worn with sporty outfits. They have
shoelaces. However, converse shoe is a bit unique because of its color and
material making it.
3. LOW TOP SNEAKERS.
These types of sneakers do not cover
ankles. They can be worn with shorts, blazer or generally semi-casuals this is
because of their dynamic nature.
According to Fabric sneakers can be categorized
into leather, textile and synthetic.
1. LEATHER.
These sneakers are designed for sports that
are more of feet action. As the name suggests they are made from leather.
Quality leather sneakers can be waterproof.
2. SYNTHETIC.
They are the cheapest and less durable.
They are made from synthetic materials.
3. TEXTILE.
These are easy shoes as they breathe well.
Some such sneakers are made in a combination of textiles and leather. The only
disadvantage of textile sneakers is that they can absorb water and in that case
one's leg can get wet.
HOW TO WEAR SNEAKERS
Commonly sneakers are meant to be worn
during rigorous physical activities like running hiking or just exercising.
Also sneakers can be worn in a casual setting.
Especially low-cut are best worn with low
socks mostly known as no-show socks. Otherwise, some wear sneakers without
socks. Also sneakers can be worn with rolled up jeans.
However, avoid these outfits when wearing
sneakers: no sneakers with a formal suit, avoid wearing sneakers with silk
socks and also never wear sneakers to a job interview unless it’s a position
for a a skater.
In conclusion, sneakers are most likely a
necessity in one's wardrobe. As illustrated above, this is because they are
easy going, convenient at the same time very fashionable and outstanding.
